Cars in Germany's Town Found Smeared with Swastikas in Blood, Police Report

Officers stated they were contacted by a resident who found a automobile in Hanau marked with red-colored substance

Around 50 cars have been covered with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.

Automobiles, walls and postal boxes were marked, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they announced in a statement.

Law enforcement state they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a man noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a reddish fluid.

The substance had been placed in the pattern of a swastika, they added.

Police then located many other vandalized vehicles and residential walls in the surrounding area.

Swastikas are illegal in Germany under laws outlawing the public display of Nazi-era symbols.

Officials say preliminary tests suggest the substance was most likely human blood.

"At present there remains no clue as to where it came from; officials are not yet cognizant of any physical harm in connection with the incident," they stated.

Local authorities said they were working "to solve the case" and have asked to the residents for tips.

An important representative stated the vandalism rendered him stunned and required to be resolved rapidly.

"This incident strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the far-right violent incident in 2020," he wrote on online, recalling the killing of nine individuals by a shooter targeting individuals of foreign heritage in five years prior.
